Passing Through

PASSING THROUGH

(Green Mountain Records) 1978 Release

Now available on CD!

The Boston Globe called Jon's initial solo effort "a delightful acoustic display of Gailmor's wit, songwriting abilities, and voice of great range and clarity." This eclectic collection includes his own compositions, plus songs by Jacques Brel, Ralph McTell, Reverend Gary Davis, and others. Jon shares a high-spirited feeling with listeners, which can be of all ages.

Gonna Die With A Smile IF It Kills Me

GONNA DIE WITH A SMILE IF IT KILLS ME

(Philo Records) 1980 Release

The musical ramblings in his second album range from bluegrass to scat, from Irish love songs to tunes for small people. Original songs include "Just Kidding", which advocates perpetual childishness and immaturity, and "Long Ago Lady", a tribute to his home state of Vermont. The Vermont Vanguard Press: "Give it a listen, because there aren't many albums being made for optimists, these days." (available on compact disc and cassette)

DIRT! Album

DIRT!

(Philo Records) 1983 Release

Jon was definitely feeling his oats when recording this album. The title song is an ageless plea for simplicity. According to Sing out! Magazine, Gailmor's third release "contains politics, love, humor, and personal experience. It flows smoothly and maintains variety, with talented friends adding beautifully arranged background instruments. Jon's satirical side blossoms, as well, in an anthem for over-zealous developers." (available on compact only)

Generations CD

GENERATIONS

(Green Linnet Records) 1987 Release

A moving tribute to his grandparents, an eloquent saga of solo saloon-performing, a song of pre-natal hysteria, a description of upper-body aerobics as exhibited by a two-month-old baby, a celebration of chiropractors, and "The Full-Diaper Blues", are just some of the pieces contained in Jon's totally original fourth release, once again meant for audiences mature and immature. This album contains jazz, rock n roll, a capella four-part harmony, country-rock, folk ballads, and everything in between. (available on compact disc and cassette)

Childish Eyes CD

CHILDISH EYES

(Softwood Recordings) 1996 Release

"You've never heard children's music quite like Jon Gailmor's." That's what Parents Magazine had to say, in singing the praises of Jon's latest rendering. Bob Sherman, of New York's WQXR called it "Quite extraordinary", and "not cut from the usual cloth." Childhood--the real item--is the focus of this album. Many of the songs herein are based on lessons children have taught Jon during his songwriting residencies and performances in schools. There are celebrations of genuine childhood heroes: school custodians and teachers. There's one about a little girl who wants to drive a backhoe, a Cajun-style rap about the ecstasy of learning to read, and a fine dose of the silliness and absurdity that is an integral part of being young. Childish eyes see and feel anguish and turmoil, as well--a girl waits up late and wonders why her father isn't home from the bars yet, and a boy comes to terms with his dad, a gay man who has just come out of the closet. This album is for families to hear together. It is for children and their parents to listen to alone. CAUTION: SOME OF THE MATERIAL MAY BE THOUGHT-PROVOKING. (available on compact disc and cassette)
